Gedling Lotto continues to win for the community

28 June 2023

Gedling Lotto has just celebrated a £250 winner. The winner had been supporting Daybrook Bowls Club by playing the weekly lottery when she matched four numbers and won £250 in a prize draw this month.

Since the Lotto launched in 2020, over £10,000 has been won in the prize draws and almost £50,000, has been raised for the local community.

Daybrook Bowls Club has raised over £1,600 through selling Gedling Lotto tickets.

Gedling Lotto is an online sustainable fundraising solution provided by Gedling Borough Council, with no upfront costs to the good causes it helps support. It is designed to help local not-for-profit organisations, including volunteering groups, charities and sports clubs, to raise vital funds all year-round, in a safe, fun and effective way.

People support their favourite local cause and local community by playing the lottery. The chosen cause receives 50% of every £1 ticket their supporters buy, with an additional 10% going to further support the local community. There are weekly cash prizes to be won, up to the value of £25,000, as well as additional prizes like iPhones and holidays. Players have 50:1 odds of winning a prize, much higher than for the National Lottery, while knowing they are really helping their local community. There are currently nearly 40 local causes that can be chosen to support with a Gedling Lotto ticket purchase.

Good causes not only benefit from their supporters’ ticket sales, they receive a host of free marketing materials and support, including their own Gedling Lotto web page. It is completely free for good causes across Gedling Borough to sign up and use Gedling Lotto to raise funds.

Jill Bator, Secretary of Daybrook Bows Club, said, “Daybrook Bowls Club have been involved with the Gedling Lotto since the launch. We have found it extremely beneficial to be involved with the Lotto as it has enabled us to raise much needed funds for the Club.

This season, with the help of funds from Gedling Lotto, we have been able to buy team shirts for our members and carry out repairs to our club house. The shirts give our members a sense of belonging and a team identity, something which is good for team morale. This would not have been possible without Lotto funding.

I would encourage anyone who is thinking about joining the Lotto to do so. The Lotto provides a very good way of raising funds for your good cause. It is a win-win situation for all involved. Your good cause will benefit and of course your supporters have a chance to scoop a prize.”

Leader of Gedling Borough Council, Councillor John Clarke MBE said, “It is wonderful to hear about a Gedling Lotto player winning a cash prize, but also to see the good work that these ticket sales enable for local good causes. Daybrook Bowls Club have raised funds through the Lotto and put their money towards buying new kit for the club members as well as other work they needed. They are just one of many clubs and organisations that do great work for our communities and benefit from the income they get from Gedling lotto ticket sales.”
